The Yukon Hospital Foundation is very grateful to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation for a donation of $44,000 towards the Extraordinary Together: A Campaign for our Littlest Yukoners!
This is the second significant donation from the Sandra Schmirler Foundation to support pediatrics needs.
Biliblankets
A biliblanket is a portable phototherapy device for the treatment of neonatal jaundice.
Jaundice is a yellow tint to a newborn’s skin and the white part of the eyes which means there is too much bilirubin in the baby’s blood. Phototherapy allows the skin to absorb the light which changes the bilirubin so that the body can more easily excrete it through urine and stool. Jaundice is estimated to affect 50 to 60 percent of babies born at full-term and up to 80 percent of babies born prematurely.
Fetal Heart Monitor
Electronic Fetal Monitors (EFM) help staff measure fetal heart rates during pregnancy, labour, and birth to assess the baby’s wellbeing.
A number of electronic features will also ensure additional peace of mind to labouring mothers. The most important thing during labour and delivery is response time when there is a concern.
Thank you Sandra Schmirler Foundation!
